Good RAM if your board's BIOS doesn't allow you to increase the RAM frequency.
This RAM automatically pushes the many boards to operate at a higher RAM speed, up to 1866MHz for this set.
Price is for the most part not any higher than for RAM that doesn't do that.
RAM itself isn't that great as far as it's timing and latency.
For the set I received, there was an additional "con" of one of the two sticks not functioning,
but Amazon took it back and refunded my payment quickly and painlessly so no stars removed for that.
I bought another set of HyperX FURY later on (Red 1866MHz) both those sticks functioned well, and operated at the higher 1866MHz without adjusting the BIOS settings.
Benchmarks for that pair was also somewhat lackluster despite the higher GHz.
Recommended if you want higher RAM speed on many boards that otherwise wouldn't allow you to increase RAM speed, decent RAM but you can probably do better for the money if you don't need the auto-clocking feature.
Then in early October my laptop died. So I decided to get the desktop up and running again. Reinstalled everything, cleaned the dust out of the tower and ran some tests on it. Sadly the computer was still to slow. So I decided to max out the ram (16gb)
After a lot of research and found this older RAM still worked great and many of the internet reviews I read said this was a great brand.
Once I installed it, I had to reboot the computer a couple of times for the system to notice the hardware changes (issues with my computer). I noticed right away how much faster my computer is. Because of this upgrade I was able to pull this old computer from retirement and use it for image processing. I even have enough memory that I can run a media server and watch movies as I process images (if I wanted to)
If your computer is running slow, and you haven't tried maxing out your RAM (max amount the computer / motherboard company recommends) you defiantly do that. Its far cheaper than buying a new computer and the Kingston HyperX Fury is a great option for you.
The "easy to install" rating, if this requires a rating of anything less than 5 stars, you are trying to jam this in a DDR2 or DDR4 DIMM slot.
I wouldn't say this is a "value" buy because it has some decent speed behind it. This is not the cheap-cheap option this is intended for a slightly older gaming rig. The heatsinks are quality.
Sheerness, I guess is good? They look good and match the color scheme of the board they are on. There are alot of systems I would not install this on, such as a browsing/ word processing PC with a small case but for that low to mid end gaming machine, this does the trick!
My problem is that when I opened the yellow bubble wrapped envelope the RAM was shipped in, the packaging itself was covered in a slimy and heavily feminine scented... What I guess is something like lotion? All over it.
The scent was heavy and rather seriously agitated my allergies (been sneezing and raspy for hours) and made unboxing my product insanely difficult since I couldn't risk getting any of the foreign fluid substance on the RAM itself without risking damage.
Ultimately I managed to prevail but not without great cost to my personal comfort and well being. No electronics should have ever been exposed to any form of liquid, not cool. Not sure where in transit my product was introduced to this substance (I assume the warehouse or something) but this is why this product gets a low review.
