As someone who has only dipped their feet into the Battlefield arena a few times this was one of my first purchases of the franchise. I had played Battlefront a lot and was impressed with how Dice rolled out the extra content over the course of the year so I bought the pass to accompany Battlefield 1.
Over the last three months I have not played this game as much as I would have liked, unfortunately the likeability factor for me is not as strong as Battlefront. I feel the game is geared towards the hardcore gamers and people that want to grind their characters to high levels. As a casual gamer but one willing to put in some time if I enjoy the game I do not feel the experience is rewarding enough.
=======Battlepacks=======
One 'reward' that you can receive are the battlepacks that contain weapon skins. I find this unnecessary as these are cosmetic upgrades only, I would prefer something you can add to your gun like a sight, something to change the way you play even if it does not give you an advantage.
======= Graphics======
The graphics are superb, if you wanted to feel like you are in the battlefield itself then this game provides it in spades: forests are lush, deserts are awash with sandstorms and cities are condensed with destructible buildings and claustrophobic murder holes.
======= Single Player =======
The single player campaign is found wanting, you take the form of different characters at different stages of the war in short stories. Some of the characters are more interesting than others and the characters that deserve a little more time seem to have the shorter of the stories; in particular the Italian perspective which could have done with a few more segments. If you are a well seasoned gamer you will blast through this in no time, I tried to take my time with it but it still did not last as long as I wanted. The story does provide an insight to the war and definitely draws upon the emotional aspect of it.
======= Multiplayer =======
The multiplayer is clearly the biggest focus of the game with many maps and modes to take part in. A welcome addition for those with a lot of time on their hands is Operations which allows players to take part in battle over a few areas as part of the same match.
During a match you are part of a team with the team leader pointing out objectives that you can work together in taking, this can provide a good camaraderie experience which has been lacking in previous shooter games. You select a class of soldier and from there you can customise your weapon, albeit with not many changes to sights, handles or anything that can truly change how your fighting experience will turn out.
You start with some primitive weapons and the battle experience can be a frustrating one until you unlock further weapons (which can take some time, believe me!) which makes it better. If you die, it takes a little too long to get back into the action and you lose momentum in particular when the battle is heating up on game modes like Operations or Conquest.
With nothing to truly to unlock (unless you want to grind away towards the weapons you can buy when you level up) there is very little to push you into wanting to play for longer. The battles can be a bit samey so this is why I bought the premium pass…
======= The Premium Experience =======
I bought the premium pass and so far I have been disappointed with it, considering how much it is I have so far received nothing that I can say has been worth it. I hope over the next few months this will improve and the content will become available to provide more maps as well as more weapons. Battlefront constantly added new weapons and new ways to play and it’s because this was so successful that I hope the ones for Battlefield will prove fruitful.
======= Conclusion =======
In conclusion this game has a lot of potential but Dice just need to change a few things around to improve the gaming experience. I am happy I bought it and I still like playing it but I feel the reward aspect needs to be better to keep me playing.
